The Doc's Week Twelve Picks

Well, I finally had a decent week, but it still isn't helping my mood when it comes to this year's picks. I feel pretty good about this week, but that could just be from the tryptophan high I'm on from all the leftover turkey. Either way, we'll see come Monday night.

Picks appear in bold.

New England (-7) at Detroit
I was worried with the big game against the Jets coming next week, but in the end, I just couldn't go against Brady against a young team that makes mistakes on defense.

New Orleans (-4) at Dallas
The Saints are so frustrating this year because they let up on teams when they have them against the ropes. Thanksgiving day was no exception.

Cincinnati (+10) at New York Jets
I guess my luck with crappy teams covering against the Jets ran out.

Minnesota (+1) at Washington
I'm banking on Leslie Frazier having the same effect on the Vikings that Jason Garrett has had on the Cowboys. When you hear about the way most players felt about Childress, there's no reason to think that he won't.

Pittsburgh (-6.5) at Buffalo
The Steelers' defense has not impressed at all this year, and I'm worried about them looking forward to next week's game against the Ravens, but I think they'll still have enough to win against the worst rushing defense in the league. I would expect a lot of Rashard Mendenhall.

Tennessee at Houston (-6)
As I've stated before, I'm having a hard time going with the Texans, but against a rookie quarterback who played at Florida Atlantic and making his first NFL start, I'll take my chances.

Jacksonville at New York Giants (-7)
Too many injuries for the Jags, and when they lose, they do it big time. Their four losses have come by an average of almost 25 points.

Carolina at Cleveland (-9.5)
I'm not sure if the Browns are ready to follow through when they're the favorites, and I would certainly feel better if Colt McCoy (or anyone not named Jake Delhomme) were making the start, but I'll go with Peyton Hillis having a big day.

Tampa Bay at Baltimore (-7)
I really hate going with Joe Flacco and a big spread, but they're offense and defense are starting to roll. While I may have gone with Tampa a month or so ago, I just can't believe that they'll be able to keep it within a touchdown.

Philadelphia (-3) at Chicago
I think the wiseguys are buying into the Bears a little too much. I don't see any way they keep Mike Vick in line. On the other hand, the blitz-heavy Eagles are going to make Jay Cutler's life a living hell.

Green Bay (+2) at Atlanta
Yes, I know that Matt Ryan is 19-1 at home.  Yes, I know the Falcons have won four in a row and eight of their last nine. But, I think the difference between these two teams is Green Bay's pass defense. They will be able to control Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez.

Miami at Oakland (-2.5)
After what I saw of the Dolphins' offense against Chicago, there's no way I'm going with Miami until Chad Henne comes back.

Kansas City (-1.5) at Seattle
The Chiefs are 1-4 on the road and the Seahawks are 3-1 at home, but in my opinion, AFC West > NFC West. Sorry, but you start typing like that when Twitter becomes a big part of your life.

St. Louis at Denver (-3.5)
See logic above, but also, the Rams are 0-4 on the road and struggle against the passing game.

San Diego (+3) at Indianapolis
I have no idea why I like the Chargers in this game, but I do. I just get the feeling the injuries and age are catching up to the Colts. In addition, San Diego is finally playing with a sense of urgency.

San Francisco (-1) at Arizona
I know I'm the 132,783rd person to ask this, but how in the hell did this game make the cut for Monday Night Football? I realize the schedule is made long before the season, but when they looked at the schedule and saw Green Bay-Atlanta, San Diego-Indy, Minnesota-Washington, or Tennessee-Houston, what made them think that a Kurt Warner-less Cardinals versus an Alex Smith-led 49ers team would be a good matchup? In a year where the NFL has set every television ratings record in their history, who is responsible for this atrocity?

Last Week: 10-6
Overall: 69-84-7
