Hurricane Ike

I normally use this space to make some invalid point or flippant comment, but this week calls for something different, Instead, I'd like to ask for everyone's prayers for those in the path of Hurricane Ike as it bears down on the Gulf Coast.

Picks appear in bold.

Green Bay (-3) at Detroit
I'm still not convinced that Aaron Rodgers is the man, but he's got to be good enough to beat a team that got whipped by the Falcons. What an embarrassing performance that was Rod Marinelli.

New York Giants (-8.5) at St. Louis
This is going to be an excruciatingly long year for the Lambs, and they shouldn't expect any sympathy from a Giants' team that's still playing with a chip on their shoulder.

Indianapolis (-2) at Minnesota
I just can't see Peyton Manning allowing the Colts to go 0-2. Period.

Oakland at Kansas City (-3.5)
Granted, it was against the Denver defense, but Darren McFadden sure looked a lot better than I thought he would in his first game. However, he won't be the difference against the Chiefs.

Chicago at Carolina (-3)
The more I think about the Panthers, the more I like them. On the other hand, Northwestern University has a better quarterback situation than the Bears.

New Orleans (+1) at Washington
It's not that the Saints looked great against the Bucs last week, but the Redskins looked totally inept.

Tennessee (+1) at Cincinnati
I've said it before, and I'll say it again - the Titans are a much better offensive team with Kerry Collins than Vince Young.

Buffalo at Jacksonville (-6)
I kept waiting to see the real Jaguars' running game show up last week, but it obviously didn't happen. This week, they don't have to contend with Albert Haynesworth, so I expect to see a lot of Maurice Jones-Drew flexing to the camera.

San Francisco (+8.5) at Seattle
No particular reason, this just happens to be my "hunch" game of the week.

Atlanta at Tampa Bay (-9)
This week, Matt Ryan has to contend with a real defense...and it won't be pretty.

New England (+3) at New York Jets
Geez people, I realize that there's no Tom Brady, but the Jets...favored!!!

Baltimore at Houston (-4.5)
This could be a very emotional game for the Texans. If the hurricane hits hard, it could cause players to rally around the community or suffer from distractions dealing with family and homes. I think it will be the former.

Miami at Arizona (-7.5)
Without a pass rush, this is exactly the type of team that the Dolphins don't want to see right now. I see Kurt Warner, Anquan Boldin, and Larry Fitzgerald having a big day.

San Diego (-2.5) at Denver
As much as I like Jay Cutler and the Broncos, and if you pay attention to this site you know I do, I don't see them beating a very angry Chargers' team that will be trying to make up for last week's choke job.

Pittsburgh (-5.5) at Cleveland
I really didn't like the way the Browns looked in week one against the Cowboys. Conversely, the way the Steelers easily handled an up-and-coming Houston team was impressive to say the least.

Philadelphia at Dallas (-7)
The Eagles signed Asante Samuel for games like this against Terrell Owens. Unfortunately for Philly, it isn't nearly enough.
