2008: An "Electrifying" Year

After last year's shocking result in the Super Bowl, I decided (once I walked in off the ledge) that I would no longer trust Bill Belichick & company. After all, this was the same guy who sat in front of everyone day after day after day telling us that Tom Brady was fine (even when everyone inside Gillette stadium knew he was really struggling and hurting). He would have no problem standing up to the pass rush generated by the Giants. In other words, all would be well for those of us who had predicted great things for this team at the beginning of the year. Whatever, Bill.

So, I made a deal with myself that no matter how much I thought of the Patriots, I would NOT pick them to win it all. Of course, they play in the worst division in football, so they'll make the playoffs. In addition, they have the easiest schedule in the league, so they should get through relatively unscathed. Once again, they have more talent than any oth.... NO! NO! NO! I'm not going to do it again!!!

OK, calm down Jimmy, calm down. Deep breaths and happy thoughts. Deep breaths and happy thoughts.

Alright, before I lay down how the teams will fare, let's check out the individual hardware recipients. I see LaDainian Tomlinson winning the Most Valuable Player award. He took a lot of grief from the media and fans about how his injury kept him from playing in the New England game last January. I have a feeling he'll come back more motivated than ever. That will make it a pair of running backs taking home the top offensive awards as Adrian Peterson will capture the title of NFL Offensive Player of the Year. This may be a reach, but after seeing him finally "get it" in the second half of last season, I think Mario Williams snags the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. The Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year will go to Darren McFadden of Oakland and Jerod Mayo of New England, respectively. Lastly, the Coach of the Year award will go to.......... what?.......who?........are you sure we got this right?........really? OK, the Coach of the Year will be Norv Turner.

Now let's take a look at the rest.....
